Public star parties on one of most enjoyable activities provided by the Cache Valley Astronomical Society. These rules and guidelines are expected of all persons attending a CVAS star party. Dark skies make the event successful and enjoyable for all.
Please take a few minutes to review these rules/guidelines. Thank you.
- NO WHITE LILGHTS AFTER DARK. Use dim red lights after the sunsets
- DISABLE INTERIOR LIGHTS OF YOUR VEHICLE
- ARRIVE BEFORE SUNSET TO FIND A PLACE TO SET UP.
- KEEP SPEED DOWN AND TURN OFF HEADLIGHTS WHEN ENTERING THE OBSERVING AREA.
- KEEP PETS AT HOME.
- WHEN WALKING NEAR TELESCOPES BE AWARE OF TRIODS THAT CAN EASILY BE HIT.
- ASK THE ASTRONOMER BEFORE TOUCHING, ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE YOUNG CHILDREN. EQUIPMENT IS EXPENSIVE AND DELICATE, TODDLERS ARE TOO YOUNG TO UNDERSTAND HOW TO LOOK THROUGH A TELESCOPE AND TEND TO GRAB THE TELESCOPE
- GREEN LASERS ARE POPULAR TO POINT OUT CONSTELLATIONS AND STARS, NEVER POINT A LASER AT ANYONE.
- FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY IS NOT ALLOWED.
- ASK QUESTIONS. MOST ASTRONOMERS ARE VERY WILLING TO SHARE WHATEVER THEY KNOW.
The rules are commonsense. Star parties are a great way to socialize and enjoy the wonders of the night sky as well as learn about the night sky.
Come out and enjoy the event with us.
